Tixeo compared to other videoconferencing solutions

Read hereunder what we consider being the main advantages of Tixeo compared to some other well-knowed solutions on the videoconferencing market.

Tixeo vs Skype

It’s not an easy task to present Skype. This free solution has helped to democratize videoconferencing. It is the most widely used solution by the public at large, but not the most suitable for the business world. The numerous scandals of communication-tapping will not help to make Skype a secure solution for companies looking for confidentiality in videoconferencing.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • Available in server mode (Skype is only available in the Cloud)
  • Solution well suited to the business world (automatic deployment, LDAP integration, etc.)
  • Interoperability with H.323 / SIP videoconferencing systems
  • More advanced collaboration functions than in Skype
  • Tixeo does not use your neighbour as a communications relay node (Skype uses your computer as a SuperNode to route the communications, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype_protocol)

Tixeo vs Polycom

Polycom is an important traditional player in the old world of videoconferencing. That is to say the world of meeting rooms equipped with dedicated and proprietary codecs. These systems are based on the standard protocols of videoconferencing H.323 and SIP.

Frankly speaking, these protocols are a nightmare when it comes to carry out mass deployment. There are so many ports to open to make it work properly that your network may turn into a sieve.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • No change is necessary on the network security policy. Tixeo uses the HTTPS 443 port for all audio, video and data streams. There is no need to open new ports on the firewalls
  • Application and desktop sharing are of high quality
  • More collaboration functions. For example, you can grant specific rights to a participant like remote control on an application (it’s impossible with the H.323 / SIP protocols)
  • Interoperability with Polycom videoconferencing systems
  • Instant Messaging, presence, etc.
  • Pricing: connecting together up to 4 Polycom sites will cost you 10 K€ to 30 K€. But if more than 4 sites, you will need a MCU, which costs more than 50 K€
  • No need to replace the videoconferencing system every 3 years

Tixeo vs LifeSize

LifeSize is a newer videoconferencing actor than Polycom and was one of the first to offer HD videoconferencing. It should be noted that Tixeo’s technology already supports 4K. As well as Polycom, these systems are based on the H.323 / SIP protocols, so the benefits of Tixeo over Polycom that have already been mentioned previously are still valid.

  • Interoperability with LifeSize videoconferencing systems
  • Instant Messaging, presence, etc.
  • Pricing: connecting together up to 4 LifeSize sites will cost you 10 K€ to 30 K€. But if more than 4 sites, you will need a MCU, which costs more than 50 K€
  • No need to replace the videoconferencing system every 3 years

Tixeo vs Adobe Connect

Although Adobe Connect is available in the browser, it is based on Flash technology. This latest is declining and will be replaced by HTML5.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • More intuitive user interface
  • Video and audio are of higher quality in Tixeo videoconferencing
  • Adaptive to the network capacity, works even on low bandwidth networks
  • Instant Messaging, presence, etc.
  • Not based on a dying technology but on an innovative one

Tixeo vs Cisco WebEx

WebEx is a traditional player in the world of videoconferencing; it is now a product of Cisco which has not improved with the time, like a good French wine would do.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • More intuitive user interface
  • Video and audio are of higher quality in Tixeo videoconferencing
  • Adaptive to the network capacity, works even on low bandwidth networks
  • Available on a server on premise
  • Interoperability with LifeSize or Polycom videoconferencing systems
  • Instant Messaging, presence, etc.

Tixeo vs WebRTC (e.g. Google Hangouts)

Google acquired On2 in 2010 and its VP8 video compression technology, and Global IP Solutions (GIPS) providing SDK for videoconferencing. Then Google put WebRTC into the public domain, including these technologies.

This is a very interesting technology because it works in Chrome, Firefox and Opera, and it can turn those browsers into videoconferencing endpoints.

Indeed, Tixeo has also been the first video conferencing editor in the world to use the Google VP8 codec. Two weeks after VP8 was set public, Tixeo put it in its products and all our customers were able to benefit of this codec. In 2013, Tixeo used the WebRTC technology in Helleo, a new and very innovative collaborative software.

However, Tixeo also pointed out many shortcomings, and concluded that this technology is not ready for business videoconferencing. Indeed, there are many problems when it comes to security and going through Proxy and Firewalls. In addition, this technology is not compatible with Internet Explorer and Safari.

  • Interoperability with LifeSize or Polycom videoconferencing systems

Tixeo vs Vidyo

Relatively new in the field of videoconferencing, Vidyo has managed to be different in the market thanks to its video codec H.264 SVC, providing scalability in video streams, without “transcoding” nor intensive processing on the server side.

It should be noted that Tixeo created “SVC on Demand” to push back the boundaries of traditional SVC technology, while retaining the advantages. See here.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • No change is necessary on the network security policy. Tixeo uses the HTTPS 443 port for all audio, video and data streams. There is no need to open new ports on the firewalls
  • Video and audio are of higher quality in Tixeo videoconferencing
  • Application and desktop sharing are of high quality and more reactive
  • More collaborative functions: Attendees can not only see the documents but take control, Multiple application sharing, not only one, etc.
  • Instant Messaging, presence, etc.

Tixeo vs Lync (Skype for Business)

Lync is the Microsoft unified communications solution for business, and suffers by the same disadvantages in terms of deployments that the videoconferencing solutions based on H.323 or SIP, i.e. the opening of thousands of ports on the desktop.

Benefits of Tixeo:

  • Security and confidentiality in videoconferencing communications
  • No change is necessary on the network security policy. Tixeo uses the HTTPS 443 port for all audio, video and data streams. There is no need to open new ports on the firewalls
  • More intuitive user interface
  • Video and audio are of higher quality in Tixeo videoconferencing
  • Adaptive to the network capacity, works even on low bandwidth networks
  • Application and desktop sharing are of high quality and more reactive
